Coppell is a city in the northwest corner of Dallas County in the U.S. state of Texas. It is a suburb of Dallas and a bedroom community in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. 

German and French settlers first arrived in this area in the 1840s. The area was originally known as Gibbs Station. In 1890, the city was given its present name in honor of local engineer George A. Coppell, who brought the railroad to the city. Coppell was incorporated in 1955. The city experienced rapid development after the opening of the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in 1974.

One of Coppell’s selling points is its close proximity to DFW International Airport. Part of DFW’s property is located within Coppell’s city limits. At the time it opened in 1974, DFW was the world’s largest airport sitting on approximately 18,000 acres. Since its opening, DFW has grown to be one of the world’s busiest international airports, with more than 60 million passengers passing through the gates annually.
